Dir. of Government Affairs for Anne Arundel County joins firm in December
Annapolis, MD – Cornerstone Government Affairs announced the addition of Bernie Marczyk as Vice President to the firm. Marczyk comes to Cornerstone having previously been the Director of Government Affairs for Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh.
“Bernie is an honest broker and strategic thinker who works with both sides of the aisle to get things done for Anne Arundel County,” said Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh. “Thanks to his leadership, we were successful with over 95% of our legislative initiatives over four years. Bernie’s thoughtful analysis helped us build more schools, parks, and roads; provide record school and public safety funding; and improve the quality of life for our citizens. He will be an excellent addition to the Cornerstone team.”
During his four years at Anne Arundel County, Marczyk worked closely with the County Council and Maryland General Assembly to advance legislative initiatives and implement public policies for the county. Prior to working for the County Executive, Bernie worked for Ducks Unlimited for seven years as a government affairs representative and then a director/manager of conservation programs. Marczyk started at Ducks Unlimited by overseeing public policy efforts in the Atlantic Region managing federal and state issues and then working on Ducks Unlimited ground conservation delivery from Maryland to Maine.
Marczyk began his professional career working for then-Congressman Bob Ehrlich first as Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and then as a Policy Advisor for Governor Ehrlich in Annapolis, where he oversaw the legislative and policy efforts of the Departments of Agriculture, Environment, Natural Resources, Planning, and Transportation. Bernie also worked on multiple statewide and local elections in Maryland.
“Bernie has a great reputation, tremendous expertise and excellent relationships inside and outside of government,” said Geoff Gonella, Cornerstone’s President and Managing Director. “He is a great addition to our established and growing Maryland presence.”
Marczyk will join John Bohanan, PJ Hogan, Van Mitchell, Delora Sanchez, and June Zhu in Cornerstone’s Annapolis, Maryland office. The firm was founded in 2002 in Washington, D.C. and has offices in 10 locations.
