What One Big, Beautiful Bill Means for Local Leaders, Businesses

Major changes are on the horizon for federal funding streams that impact businesses and communities across the United States. As Congress works to pass President Trump’s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ ahead of his July 4th deadline, programs such as Medicaid, Social Security and SNAP – as well as SALT caps and clean energy tax credits –  are all under review.

While lawmakers debate which provisions stay and which go, local leaders are beginning to examine how the sweeping reconciliation package may impact their communities and businesses in the months and years to come.

To support their efforts, Cornerstone’s bipartisan team of policy experts recently hosted two events in Texas. Several members of our D.C. team traveled to meet with federal clients and their stakeholders in Dallas and Houston, leading in-depth discussions on the bill’s potential implications.

Cornerstone Principal Ron Storhaug visited the Dallas Regional Chamber (DRC) at the end of May to provide his insights on the reconciliation package. With over 15 years of experience in federal tax and economic policy, Ron offered a clear breakdown of the bill’s key elements for chamber members and facilitated a dynamic discussion. More than 50 member companies attended, representing sectors ranging from financial services to retail to healthcare. One key takeaway from DRC members: businesses are looking to the Administration for increased certainty as they evaluate the impacts of the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’, alongside their concerns about pending tariffs.

The following day, Cornerstone Principals John Sandell and Terry Van Doren met with the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) for a similar session. GHP members expressed strong interest in understanding how to navigate changes in the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ and found insights from Cornerstone’s team of experts to be valuable for their strategic planning.

With offices in Austin, Dallas and Houston, Cornerstone’s Texas team was able to join both of these discussions to offer a comprehensive, localized perspective for leaders in the state.

At Cornerstone, we pride ourselves on being one team – deeply interconnected across our offices in 15 states and DC. We are uniquely positioned and fully committed to helping state and local leaders navigate policy changes from Washington and beyond. If you’re interested in hosting an event to leverage our integrated approach and explore how federal and state policies are shaping the business landscape in your region, please reach out to our team today!
