Cornerstone Government Affairs, a bipartisan, employee-owned public affairs firm, today announced the additions of three distinguished leaders to its federal government relations team: Terry Van Doren, former Senior Policy Advisor to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY); Colleen Kaveney Moss, former Managing Director for Industrial Policy and Advocacy at ClearPath; and Andy Flick, former Special Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor for Congressional Affairs and Strategic Outreach in the Office of former Vice President Kamala Harris. These highly accomplished professionals bring decades of combined experience and expertise in government affairs, bipartisan policy formation and relationship building, enhancing Cornerstone’s ability to serve its clients across a wide array of industries.

“We are thrilled to welcome Terry, Colleen and Andy to Cornerstone,” CEO Geoff Gonella said. “Each of them brings a unique skill set and experience that will be invaluable to our clients. Their deep understanding of policy and government relations will strengthen our ability to deliver exceptional results for our clients in an increasingly complex and dynamic political environment.”

Terry Van Doren brings a wealth of experience and Republican relationships to Cornerstone. He most recently served as Senior Policy Advisor for former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), where he provided guidance on key issues, including agriculture, energy, environment and infrastructure. In this role, Van Doren played a significant part in advancing major bipartisan legislation, including the bipartisan infrastructure law (IIJA), the Great American Outdoors Act, multiple farm bills, Water Resource Development Acts, comprehensive energy legislation, public lands legislation and FAA reauthorization.

Prior to this role, Van Doren served as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE), where he led a legislative team yielding successful bipartisan initiatives that garnered supermajority support in the Senate. Other positions Van Doren held throughout his career include Political Appointee for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Legislative Director and Agricultural Policy Director for the Office of Sen. Peter G. Fitzgerald (R-IL) and Associate Director of Agriculture Policy for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

“I have admired Cornerstone since its inception and am now excited to join its ranks. With over a decade of experience serving on Leader McConnell’s Leadership team in both the Majority and Minority, I have been actively engaged in three rounds of budget reconciliation, led Senate Republican efforts on the Congressional Review Act, and played a key role in shaping major legislative accomplishments,” Van Doren said. “Throughout my tenure, we secured significant bipartisan victories while successfully preventing harmful policies. I look forward to bringing this experience to Cornerstone’s talented team and leveraging it to drive meaningful results for our clients.”

Colleen Moss, who joins the firm on March 17, possesses a proven track record of advancing clean energy, tax and industrial policies. Most recently, she served as Managing Director of Industrial Policy & Advocacy at ClearPath, where she was a senior member of the government affairs team and worked on advancing conservative clean energy policies in Congress. In this role, Moss worked with Members of the House and Senate on bipartisan policy priorities vetted by industry to accelerate American innovation and reduce global emissions. She served as a member of the leadership team, responsible for managing a significant portion of ClearPath’s policy portfolio and led advocacy efforts for the bipartisan, bicameral Concrete and Asphalt Innovation Act, IMPACT Act and IMPACT 2.0, which will setup the Department of Energy’s first RD&D program focused on low-emission cement, concrete and asphalt production, accelerate innovative investments for existing producers and derisk investments for new innovative companies. Moss also led utility outreach and tax priorities for the organization. Moss serves as President of the Women’s Energy Resource Council (WERC), a non-profit focused on networking for women in energy policy for the public and private sector.

Prior to her work at ClearPath, Moss served as Senior Manager of Federal Government Affairs at Duke Energy Corporation, where she helped direct legislative strategy on critical power generation issues, including tax, climate, nuclear relicensing and permitting. Earlier in her career, Moss worked at the Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), where she supported the Tax Committee and worked with Congress on tax and banking legislation. Moss also served as a Legislative Correspondent for Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), working on tax, banking, budget, pensions and small business issues.

“Cornerstone is a well-respected, top government affairs and public affairs firm, and I am excited to join the team. Together, we will think strategically about issues facing clients and put forward solutions that move impactful policy outcomes while navigating the evolving landscape in Washington D.C.,” said Moss.

Andy Flick, a political strategist and public servant with more than 15 years of experience navigating Washington, including within Congress and the White House, most recently served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor for Congressional Affairs and Strategic Outreach in the Office of Vice President Kamala D. Harris. In this role, he was a key member of the Vice President’s senior leadership team, serving as her point person on Capitol Hill and managing relationships with senators, representatives, and state and local officials. He played a key role as a top political advisor during Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign, and his leadership was integral in advancing key policy priorities for the Biden-Harris Administration.

Before joining the White House, Flick served as Executive Director of the New Democrat Coalition, where he served as the top policy and political advisor for a caucus of more than 100 center-left U.S. Representatives. In addition to leading the Coalition’s policy agenda, Flick also led the Coalition’s political efforts, recruiting and supporting candidates in competitive districts across the country. Earlier in his career, Flick served as Chief of Staff to Rep. David Trone (D-MD), where he built and led a high-performing congressional office and spearheaded efforts to advance bipartisan legislation related to substance use, mental health and medical research. He also served in senior roles for several Members of Congress, including Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA) and the late Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO).

“I’m thrilled to join the talented team at Cornerstone,” Flick said. “During my time at the White House and in Congress, I’ve seen firsthand how critical strategic policy and political expertise are in navigating Washington’s ever-evolving landscape. Cornerstone’s top-notch reputation and proven track record are a testament to its collaborative approach and deep understanding of both policy and politics. I look forward to leveraging my experience to support our clients in this dynamic environment.”
