Cornerstone Boosts National Security Capabilities with Addition of Patrick Flood

WASHINGTON, DC – Cornerstone Government Affairs, an employee-owned, bipartisan government affairs firm, announced today the addition of Patrick Flood to its National Security team. As a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and former Deputy Chief of Staff to Representative Don Bacon (R-NE), Flood brings over 30 years of military, legislative and appropriations experience to his new role as Principal.

Flood, who started August 4th, most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff and National Security Advisor for Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the Cyber, Information Technologies and Innovation Subcommittee. In this role, he authored and advanced over 100 legislative provisions included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and Defense Appropriations Act between Fiscal Years 2018-2025, helping secure Congressman Bacon’s reputation as one of the most effective legislators in Congress.

Prior to his service in the House of Representatives, Flood served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. His 26-year military career spanned operational and command assignments in the combat air forces, special operations and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) communities. A qualified crewmember in the RC-135V/W Rivet Joint and the Air Force distributed reconnaissance operations enterprise, Flood combines extensive military experience in the Middle East, Europe and the Indo-Pacific with senior policy experience in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Headquarters Air Force. His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Aerial Achievement Medal.

“I am deeply honored by the invitation to join this distinguished team of government affairs professionals,” said Flood. “Cornerstone’s stellar reputation is well-deserved, and I look forward to contributing to the success of this exceptional organization.”

Cornerstone’s Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Gonella, emphasized the vital role Flood will hold as the firm continues to expand its National Security offerings, bringing both lived experience as a service member and first-hand insights to the intersection of defense policy, cyber security and appropriations.

“I’m pleased to welcome Patrick to the Cornerstone team, especially as the demand for our national security and defense expertise continues to grow and evolve,” Gonella said. “Patrick is bringing a robust understanding of our armed services, national security and the legislative process that will be a boon to clients navigating the complexities of this space.”

With the addition of Flood, Cornerstone’s National Security practice group now boasts over 30 experts who serve dozens of for-profit and not-for-profit clients in the field.
