Mike's Bio
Mike Smith serves as a Managing Principal with Cornerstone Government Affairs, where he has spent more than two decades advising a broad array of sovereign nations, Fortune 500 companies, tribal governments and leading non-profits on a wide range of issues before the federal government. A lawyer by training, Mike previously served as a Partner in the Governmental Affairs section of a leading international law firm where he focused his work on legislative, executive agency and regulatory issues.Mike has extensive experience in Democratic politics at the local, state and federal levels and is recognized for his political acumen. He remains heavily engaged with the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee as a Member where he is recognized as one of the leading outside fundraisers for Senate Democrats. He has been appointed to roles in party organizations including the DNC. In addition, Mike has worked in more than 20 states through a series of Presidential campaigns and continues to provide substantive policy and political counsel to leading Democratic candidates at all levels.
Mike serves as an appointed member of the Bipartisan Policy Center Action Board where he co-chairs the Finance Committee, a member of the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute Advisory Board as well as the University’s Graduate Studies and Research Advisory Council, and a member of the Board of St. Coletta’s of Greater Washington. Mike earned a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1996, after graduating cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Government & International Relations in 1993. He and his wife, Amy Tejral, reside in Chevy Chase, MD with two sons, Finnegan and Grady.
