Shanetta's Bio

Shanetta Paskel joined the Cornerstone team in May 2021 as a principal on the federal government relations team. Shanetta began her government relations career in 2007 in the Maryland attorney general’s office where she served as the chief lobbyist and legislative liaison to the General Assembly. Since then, she worked in the Maryland Governor’s office, the American Association for Justice, Baltimore City Community College, and Navient where she was heavily involved in state and federal government affairs.

Prior to joining Cornerstone, Shanetta was the senior director of state and federal government relations at Navient – a U.S. corporation based in Wilmington, Delaware, whose operations include servicing and collecting student loans.  In this role, she coordinated and lead the company’s government relations, advocacy efforts, and PAC strategy on the federal, state, and local level.  Shanetta’s leadership and success was widely recognized as she was the recipient of the Navient Navigator Leadership Award in 2020.

Before Navient, she worked at Baltimore City Community College where she lobbied the office of the Governor, the Maryland General Assembly, the Mayor of Baltimore, and the Baltimore City Council on matters involving higher education, workforce development, continuing education, and the College’s budgetary needs. During her time at the American Association for Justice she provided guidance for multi-state legislative campaigns, legal analysis, governance assistance and lobbying strategies to U.S. state and Canadian trial lawyer associations.

Shanetta sits on the board of Planned Parenthood of Maryland, is treasurer for Planned Parenthood Advocates for DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia, and is a member of the Washington Government Relations Group. In 2012, she was named as one of the Daily Record’s Leading Women (Maryland’s Top 40 Under 40). She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and her Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School.  She is bar certified in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
