Cornerstone Government Affairs Adds House Republican Policy Expert

Chris Sarley, Policy Director for John Shimkus (R-IL) and Energy & Commerce Committee Professional Staff  joins firm on May 15

WASHINGTON – Cornerstone Government Affairs announced the hiring of Chris Sarley, Policy Director for Congressman John Shimkus (R-IL) and the Policy Coordinator, Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy at House Energy & Commerce.  Chris will join the firm as a Vice President and immediately become part of Cornerstone’s energy, environment, and health practice groups.

A 14-year Hill veteran, Chris served Congressman Shimkus as the principal advisor on energy, environment and health care policy.  In this capacity, he provided counsel on energy policy with a focus on things such as infrastructure, modernizing markets for continued reliable and affordable base load generation, renewable energy, and agency oversight.  During his tenure, his legislative achievements included several medical device titles of the 21st Century Cures Act, the ADAPT and GAIN Acts and reauthorization of ADUFA.

On Energy & Commerce, among other areas of focus, he served as a primary House negotiator during the first major rewrite of a U.S. environmental statute in over two decades and facilitated passage of the Chemical Safety for the 2st Century Act, which amends the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the nation’s primary chemical regulation law.

“In his role working for Rep. Shimkus, Chris developed a stellar reputation due to his deep knowledge of policy and tireless work ethic,” said Tyler Nelson, a Senior Vice President at Cornerstone and former Chief of Staff to Congressman Pete Olson (R-TX).  “He played a pivotal role in advancing Mr. Shimkus’s agenda, and by so doing developed strong relationships with E&C committee staff, member offices on both sides of the aisle and key industry players.  We are thrilled to have him joining the Cornerstone team.”

“I could not be more excited to join the outstanding team of professionals at Cornerstone Government Affairs,” said Chris Sarley. “Their stellar reputation for client services and record of delivering results is among the best in the business. I am looking forward to being a part of that growing success and eager to build upon my years of experience on Capitol Hill to now engage and influence public policy in a new capacity.”

“Chris Sarley has been a trusted adviser to me for 10 of the 14 years he’s worked on Capitol Hill,” said Congressman John Shimkus. “He has been an invaluable member of my team and the Energy and Commerce Committee, simultaneously advancing my healthcare, energy and environmental agendas. His work on antibiotics, medical devices and chemical safety has helped to improve the health and safety of my constituents and millions more across the country. Chris has served me well, doing tremendous work under great stress, and I wish him all the best in the years ahead.”
